Sealing Cord and Gaskets
Ceramic fiber products are made from fused alumina (Al2O3) and silica (SiO2) using the "centrifugal method". The final fibers have a white, cotton-like appearance and exhibit high thermal stability, low thermal conductivity, and good chemical resistance.
Since ceramic fibers cannot be processed into textile products, organic fibers must be added to aid the spinning process. In addition, the textile products are reinforced with glass yarn or a chrome-plated steel wire.
The maximum temperature resistance of our glass-reinforced products is approximately 550°C and our products reinforced with chrome steel wire can be used up to a temperature of approximately 1250°C. In this context, the influence of the source and the type of stress must also be considered. Detailed information about our materials can be found in our material sheet.
Our products are classified as carcinogenic (K2). The general regulations of the fiber producers for handling ceramic fibers must be observed. When sharing your application parameters, Tralcon will be happy to advise you on how to replace ceramic fiber products with materials that are harmless to your health.

Concerning factors beyond our control, the recommendations in this technical data sheet require that the customer must carry out its own tests and inspections during processing.
Tralcon's recommendation does not relieve the customer of its obligation to review and resolve, if necessary, any infringement of third-party trademark rights. Recommendations for use do not guarantee suitability for the recommended purpose.
Square section gaskets are braided with core and edges. The yarns are also reinforced with glass or a chrome-plated steel wire.
Product type:
Fiber-filled gasket, cord, knitted cord sleeves, needle mats, paper gaskets, gaskets: round and square.
Seals
Seals or gaskets are elements or constructions used to fill a space so that gases or liquids can be prevented from entering or leaving.
A gasket can be produced in various designs and from different materials.
Twisted or knitted with an open or closed structure.
If desired, a cord can even be double-knitted.
In addition, there are two possible reinforcements, namely glass or metal.
The glass-reinforced cords go up to a maximum temperature of 650 degrees Celsius, while the metal-reinforced cords can withstand up to 1050 degrees Celsius.
The cords can be supplied in round or square format and up to a diameter of 80 mm. The relevant temperature resistance is important when choosing the material.
